Fat Dragoin 2008 Review & 2009 Preview

A Message from Tom on his forum (sorry I'm so late in getting this out):

Hey all-Wow, where to begin... 2008 was an amazing year for us in every measurable way. Once again we grew at a rate exceeding our wildest expectations with revenues up dramatically over the previous year. Our advertising and convention outreach efforts paid off beyond our most optimistic forecast, resulting in huge numbers of new customers for us. We picked up Crafty Games as a partner, and have a number of exciting Spycraft releases planned for 2009. The new year will also see us expand into foreign sales markets, with Spanish, German and French translations of our most popular sets being offered to customers in those countries. I'll post more info on this marketing project in the spring.

First quarter 2009 will see several new DRAGONSHIRE releases, new sci-fi sets (more on this below) and more E-Z TERRAIN sets. We'll also be having some more wargame focused sets to appeal to the customers over at Wargamevault.com where we are now selling our products. Our model releases will continue as they have for the last three and a half years, but there will also be some new offerings in our catalog. In addition to releasing preprinted model sets later this year, FDG will also be publishing RPG supplements for several popular RPG systems, including our newest business partner (drumroll please...)

TROLL LORD GAMES! Last month we signed a contract with TLG to produce products supporting the wildly popular CASTLES & CRUSADES RPG. We have a number of things planned for this amazing game system in 2009, and work has already begun on several of them. I am a huge fan of the game (it's what I run for the FDG crew) and more than that, it is truly an honor to get to work with the Trolls. Steve and Davis Chenault are great guys whom I've really grown to admire and respect over the last few years. It is also very gratifying to me to work with the company that Gary Gygax chose to publish his work in his final years. Of all the companies that Gary could have gone with to publish his material, he chose Troll Lord Games, and for good reason. TLG reminds me of the old TSR we all knew and loved back in the early 80's and I am geeking out to be a part of that. All model sets will directly tie in with the game and/or include C&C stats. Our upcoming sci-fi releases will include stats for TLG's brand new sci-fi STARSIEGE RPG. For those of you who are not familiar with Castles & Crusades, I strongly urge you to click over to the TLG site and download the free quick-start rules. Trust me, you'll be glad you did: http://trolllord.com/cnc/ccqs.html

We're upping our convention appearances this year. Origins and Gen Con are for sure, with several more planned as well. I am really looking forward to seeing many of you again, and hope to see some of you for the first time. These cons are always a blast for us, and I am especially looking forward to Indy this year (we have an AMAZING booth planned for those of you attending with some really neat SWAG this year.)

Finally, I want to thank each and every one of you. All of you made 2008 an extraordinary year for us, and 2009 looks even better. I hope you all have a safe and prosperous new year.

Thanks all!Tom

Fat Dragon Games & Goodman Games News

I'm a little behind in posting but wanted to let everyone know that Fat Dragon Games and Goodman Games are doing a joint project with their upcoming D&D 4E projects. Here is the message Tom from Fat Dragon sent out:

OK, the cat's out of the bag now. I've gotten a few PMs and e-mails asking what we're doing with Goodman Games for their D&D 4E Dungeon Crawl Classics series. Joe Goodman has apparently touched on the subject here: http://ogrecave.com/All I can say is one of the first 4E DCCs will feature four pages of exclusive E-Z Dungeon models in the center. We've been working on this deal for quite a while and I am very excited that we're in the home stretch. Once we get a bit closer to the release I'll post pics of the built up models and have a link to the product page on Goodman's site. I think everyone here agrees this is our best work yet.

That's right, FDG has reached our third anniversary since we opened our doors in April 2005. Fat Dragon Games "Name the Dragon Contest"

Here are my official entries for the contest. My first choice would be "Shrubber" named after all the shrubbings Tom received. Ask Tom if you need an explanation. My second choice would involve combining Fat Dragon with one of my Favorite college teams the South Carolina Gamecocks. Take the first word from Fat Dragon and the second word from Gamecock and you have it Fatco... uh never mind.

Fat Dragon Games 2008 Preview

Over at the Fat Dragon Games Forums Tom posted a little preview for us. Looks like he has some exciting stuff coming out along with teasing us with some news of some deals he has in the works. He dropped a little hint, and you'd better be ready to make those sanity rolls. Here is Tom's post, read it here or head over to the forums and check it out.

Hey all-I'd like to thank everyone for making 2007 such a fantastic year for all of us at Fat Dragon Games. This past year has seen our small company grow faster than I ever could have imagined, and I can't tell you how much your continued support means to me and the rest of the crew.
What can you expect to see from us in 2008? Well, we'll be continuing to expand our 2D and 3D fantasy terrain catalog (we've got over 18 new releases planned), more Hollow Earth Expedition goodness is in the works with the fine people over at Exile Games Studio, and a few new products like paper miniatures that feature a new twist...customization! Sci-fi fans who have been waiting patently for some new sets from us will not be disappointed, we have several sets nearing completion and I expect to have preview pics posted here before the end of the month.
In addition to expanding our existing lines, we'll be delving into some new territory as well. It's too early to give any specific details but we are expanding our product lines to cover more wargames in the coming year. There are also a few deals in the works with other game companies that I hope to be able to make public in the next month or two.
Finally, I want to wish all of you a happy and safe 2008. I cannot express how much I have enjoyed getting to know many of you over the last two years, both online and at the various conventions we attend. Your friendship means the world to me and is the greatest part of this business.
All my best,
Tom
P.S. I'll drop one more hint about 2008....CTHULHU!
